In September 2026, Madrid hosted a Formula 1 race. For the Grand Prix, a new racetrack called MADRING was built around the IFEMA exhibition grounds. To enable spectators to watch the race from different angles and move around the grounds, extensive temporary infrastructure was required. NUSSLI took on key responsibilities in the spectator and hospitality areas. The project included grandstands for more than 92,000 people, 13 pedestrian bridges, and two multi-story hospitality buildings.

Grandstands for Different Needs and Viewing Angles

The grandstand facilities formed a key part of the spectator infrastructure at MADRING. NUSSLI constructed grandstands in the Gold, Silver, Silver Plus, and Bronze categories. This provided a variety of seating categories along the race track. Depending on the location, the grandstands were designed either as open-air structures or with a roof. Different seating configurations were also used, ranging from standard to premium seats. In total, the facilities accommodated more than 92,000 spectators. This created a large-scale temporary spectator infrastructure that met the diverse requirements of the individual grandstand areas. Another key component of the concept was accessibility for people with limited mobility. To this end, special platforms were set up that could also accommodate accompanying persons. Thus, in addition to the various seating categories, appropriate areas were included to ensure a more accessible spectator experience.

13 Bridges for the Paths Across the Race Track

At a Formula 1 race, visitors need to be able to move between different spectator and event areas. At MADRING, 13 pedestrian bridges served this connecting function. They allowed visitors to cross the racetrack and linked the various areas of the site together. The bridges spanned distances of up to 30 meters. Their design and equipment were tailored for use during the race weekend. This included cladding, lighting, and safety nets. Elevators also provided access to the various levels. In addition, the bridges were prepared to accommodate LED screens. NUSSLI was responsible for the planning, transportation, assembly, disassembly, and rental of these structures. The contract thus encompassed all essential steps, from preparation to dismantling of the temporary walkways. The 13 bridges were thus not only standalone structures but also an important part of the visitor experience at the racetrack complex.

Hospitality with skyboxes and private terraces

In addition to the grandstands, two modular hospitality buildings were constructed at turns 2 and 3. Each building, standing 12 meters tall, provided space for exclusive spectator areas and the associated catering facilities. Each building featured ten skyboxes and two catering modules. The individual skyboxes each measured 25 square meters and were directly connected to their own terrace with seating. This allowed guests to watch the race from indoors or outdoors. The combination of a sheltered indoor area and a private terrace created a variety of ways to experience the race. Access and building operations were also taken into account. Two staircases and two elevators connected the various levels. While one elevator was intended for guests, the other was reserved for staff. The reception area and a fully equipped modular kitchen for catering were located at street level. In this way, the hospitality facilities connected the guest areas with the necessary operational and catering facilities.

Temporary Event Infrastructure for International Motorsports

The MADRING project brought together a variety of requirements for temporary event construction. Grandstands, pedestrian bridges, and hospitality buildings each served their own specific functions and complemented one another to form a coordinated infrastructure for the Formula 1 race weekend. To achieve this, NUSSLI combined various types of structures—ranging from large-scale spectator facilities to fully equipped bridges and multi-story modular buildings. Depending on the structure, the services included planning, provision, assembly, and dismantling.

The project in Madrid built on NUSSLI's experience with international Formula 1 events. Also in Las Vegas, Zandvoort and Barcelona The company built temporary grandstands and other event structures for motorsports. The projects included various spectator areas, canopies, and hospitality facilities, demonstrating the range of solutions that NUSSLI implements for Formula 1 racetracks.
