NUSSLI is official supplier for the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, St. Moritz

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships are going to take place in St. Moritz from February 6 to 19, 2017. The NUSSLI is working on full speed for the grandstands and event structures to ensure that everything is ready for the event.

February 2017

The contract includes the assembly of a large grandstand for 5,000 fans, including VIP boxes and commentator platforms as well as various infrastructure components for the media and equipment in the finish area. Due to the limited space, a portion of the grandstand was built over an existing building in the finish area. The NUSSLI crew is assembling a total of 29 camera towers along the race course and building a stage for the opening ceremonies as well as the award ceremonies and concerts in Kulm Park. NUSSLI also built a small standing room grandstand for the qualifying race in Zuoz.

Particular  challenges for this project are the harsh weather conditions in the  Engadine and the snow, which has already gained a foothold.

A highlight of  the race course is the "free fall," the start of the men's downhill race, which premiered at the World Cup Finals last year. The race course section  developed by former pro skier, Bernhard Russi, has an incline of 45  degrees, which is a one hundred percent slope. Thanks to this enormously steep start, the skiers accelerate to a speed of up to 140 kilometers per hour within just a few seconds.
