European Premiere on Giant Big Air Ramp

Just a few days ago, the NUSSLI project team began with construction on the 49-meter high Big Air Ramp in Mönchengladbach. Elite ski and snowboard freestyle athletes from around the world will be battling it out for official World Cup points on this giant ramp in early December.

November 2016

The ramp will form the centerpiece of the festival grounds in Mönchengladbach. Furthermore, with a length of 120 meters, it is also too huge to fit completely in the "Sparkassenpark" hockey stadium. Hence, the daredevil athletes will be starting off outside the stadium at a height of 49 meters in order to land in the middle of the Sparkassenpark with their breakneck jumps. Two lifts will bring the freestyle athletes to a lofty height. Due to the high snow loads, structural stability is an important aspect in the planning of the project. Furthermore, the project team had to think of a solution that allows the guard rails in the starting area to be folded up in a storm. The ramp will be completed by the end of November. After that, it will be time to start shoveling snow to bring winter into the city.  The finest powder snow will be delivered to Mönchengladbach and carefully spread over the ramp.
