A stage that fits the festival

The Main Stage is the centerpiece of the musical action at the Seaside Festival. As a tower stage with a total of eight towers, it provides the necessary height and stability for a professional concert production. The towers form the load-bearing framework of the structure and, at the same time, provide the necessary conditions for the safe integration of stage and show technology. This makes the festival stage far more than just a performance area for the artists. Lighting, sound, video, and other production equipment must have sufficient space and be securely supported. At the same time, it is essential to coordinate the stage’s dimensions with the requirements of each individual show. The eight towers give the Main Stage its distinctive structure and provide the foundation for meeting the technical demands of a large-scale live production.

System-based Material as a Problem-Solving Strategy

At NUSSLI, a Stage solution It’s not a matter of asking, “Which standard stage can we set up?” Rather, what matters most is what the event requires. Event organizers and production teams bring their own ideas, requirements, and parameters—such as the size of the stage, the necessary technical equipment, sightlines, height, the venue, or the event schedule. This gives rise to the appropriate structure. NUSSLI’s modular system components can be combined in such a way that individual elements come together to create a solution tailored to the specific situation. Towers, stage surfaces, platforms, and other structural elements are assembled and sized according to the requirements. The strength therefore lies not in a single standard solution, but in the ability to repeatedly develop new, customized structures from a proven system. This very flexibility is also evident in other NUSSLI festival projects such as Moon&Stars in Locarno or the Openair Frauenfeld.

Technology and Production Behind the Audience

Even behind the scenes, a festival needs efficient infrastructure. At the Seaside Festival, NUSSLI is constructing a two-story FOH. The front-of-house structure serves as the central workspace for technical production and provides space for controlling lighting and sound. The two-story design makes efficient use of the available space and creates different levels for the technical infrastructure. This makes it clear that professional festival construction doesn’t end with the visible main stage. The areas for technical operations and production must also be carefully planned and integrated into the overall concept. Another element of the festival infrastructure is the approximately 16-meter-high delay tower. At large open-air concerts, the sound must reach even the most distant sections of the audience as evenly and with as high a quality as possible. This requires additional technical positions throughout the festival grounds. The structure must not only be structurally sound but also fulfill a specific function within the overall concert production.

An extensive portfolio in festival and open-air venue construction

The Seaside Festival is part of NUSSLI's extensive portfolio in the festival and open-air sector. In Switzerland, NUSSLI carries out projects including Stages and Event Structures for the Openair St. Gallen, the Gurten Festival, the Paléo Festival in Nyon, the Open Air Lumnezia or that SunIce Festival in Ascona.

The projects showcase the wide range of festival construction projects: from large open-air festivals with multiple stages and extensive infrastructure to concert events in historic city centers and festivals at unique venues. At Openair St. Gallen, for example, the temporary infrastructure includes several concert stages as well as FOH, camera platforms, VIP and hospitality areas, ramps, and other production spaces. At the Paléo Festival in Nyon, the scope of work ranges from the Jumbo Stage to FOH and control rooms, as well as other temporary structures on the festival grounds. This diversity is a key part of NUSSLI’s expertise: Different festivals require different solutions. The system equipment forms the foundation for this—the actual service is created through the combination of components, precise planning, and experience in implementation.
