Stages

The Street Parade brings electronic music, DJs, and hundreds of thousands of people right into the heart of Zurich’s city center. For this year’s event, NUSSLI built the Center Stage, a standalone DJ stage measuring approximately 22 × 14 meters. The result was a compact, striking stage that differed from traditional concert stages and was specifically tailored to the format and production of the Street Parade.

From a platform to a complete stage structure

NUSSLI constructed the stage using a combination of CS platforms, towers, and trusses. The CS platform served as the performance area, while the towers and truss elements created the spatial and structural framework of the stage. The individual components were combined into a cohesive structure, thereby forming the foundation for the performance and technical areas of the Center Stage.

With a stage like this, it is particularly important to coordinate the existing system components effectively. The structure had to provide the required floor space while also offering sufficient load-bearing capacity for the technical equipment and functioning as a self-contained stage architecture. NUSSLI thus did not merely supply individual components but implemented the complete structural solution for the Center Stage.

A DJ stage with its own unique character

Center Stage plays a special role within the Street Parade. Unlike a traditional main stage for large-scale concert productions, it is geared toward electronic music and DJ sets. The open structure, consisting of towers and trusses, reinforces this character and makes the technical infrastructure a visible part of the stage design. The Street Parade used the stage for its own lineup, thereby creating another musical highlight alongside the event’s main stages. The Center Stage is located between the lake and downtown, connecting Zurich’s urban surroundings with the immediate festival action.

System components that can be recombined

A key advantage of NUSSLI system materials is their versatility. Platforms, towers, and crossbeams are not limited to a single scaffold configuration but can be assembled into various structures depending on the project. This makes it possible to build scaffolds that differ from traditional roof or portal scaffolds.

This feature is particularly useful when event organizers have a specific spatial concept in mind or when the conditions at a venue call for a customized solution. NUSSLI can handle the construction and Stage Design combine them appropriately, drawing on proven system components. Center Stage is an example of how such components can be used to create a standalone stage for a specific event.

From the DJ booth to the main stage

NUSSLI carries out Stages for a wide variety of formats—from compact music and DJ stages to festival stages and large concert structures for international tour productions. This range is evident, for example, in the Openair Frauenfeld, where NÜSSLI has implemented a wide variety of stage designs over the years, or at the Moon and Stars in Locarno, where the main stage must be planned with particular precision due to the limited space on Piazza Grande. Also at the Paléo Festival in Nyon NUSSLI offers a variety of platforms and Event Structures used.

The strength here does not lie in a specific standard stage, but rather in the ability to develop a structure tailored to each event using adaptable system components—regardless of whether it is a large festival production or a more compact, specially designed stage like the Center Stage.
