LED scaffolding and bleachers for the open-air movie theater

For the Dolder Wellenkino, NUSSLI built an 11 × 6.5-meter LED scaffolding system to serve as the central structure for film screenings. The modular scaffolding structure formed the basis for the large LED screen and blended seamlessly into the existing surroundings of the Dolder Eis & Bad. The infrastructure was complemented by two grandstands: one grandstand seated 70 people, while a second grandstand provided ten additional seats. Guests were able to make themselves comfortable on cozy sofas.

The result was a compact solution tailored to the venue that connected the technical areas with the audience sections. The various seating options complemented the Wellenkino’s open-air lawn concept and provided another way to enjoy the film screenings in a relaxed atmosphere.

Movies, a pool, and a summer evening—all in one place

What makes the Dolder Wellenkino special is the combination of different experiences in one place. With its 50-meter outdoor pool, spacious sunbathing lawn, and other recreational offerings, the Dolder Eis & Bad already provides a wide range of activities during the day. During the Wellenkino, the facility served as the backdrop for current films, classics, and special nights in the evening. For NUSSLI, this meant creating an event structure not on a traditional event site, but within an existing recreational and swimming complex. The LED scaffolding and bleachers therefore had to integrate functionally into the surroundings while also meeting the requirements of a professional open-air cinema.

Temporary Event Structures with a Compact System Solution

The project demonstrates that professional event infrastructure doesn’t always have to be large-scale. Rather, what matters most is that the structure is precisely tailored to the event and the available space. With the modular LED scaffolding and the versatile grandstand elements, a solution was created for the Dolder Wellenkino that is tailored to the organizer’s specific requirements. The modular design offers particular advantages for events held in existing facilities: The structures can be efficiently assembled, adapted to local conditions, and dismantled again after the event. This allows an existing venue to be expanded for an additional use for a limited period without permanently altering its original character.

From event planning to open-air movie theaters

With projects such as the Dolder Wellenkino, NUSSLI demonstrates the full range of its temporary event construction capabilities. In addition to large Concert Stages, Stands and Arenas We also create smaller, specialized structures for cultural events, festivals, and unique event formats. Whether it’s an LED scaffold, spectator stands, or a complex stage structure, the key is a combination of suitable system materials, precise planning, and a solution tailored to the specific location and usage concept.

The Dolder Wellenkino is a good example of this: Starting with a modest temporary structure, it was transformed—in conjunction with the existing infrastructure of the Dolder Eis & Bad—into a standalone venue for summer movie nights.
