After nine years of construction, the official inauguration ceremony for the expansion of the Panama Canal was held in June 2016. NUSSLI contributed a grandstand to this historic event with a total capacity of 3000 visitors.
Construction work for the expansion of the Panama Canal took nine years. It was the greatest expansion of the canal since its inauguration in 1914. Larger and even more importantly, a greater number of ships can now pass through the waterway connecting the Pacific and the Atlantic, and in significantly greater numbers.
The inauguration ceremony for the expansion of the Panama Canal was held on June 26, 2016. Around 25,000 jubilant Panamanians, canal employees, heads of state and dignitaries from around the world were in attendance for Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela’s laudatory address.
Around 3,000 spectators watched the inauguration ceremony from the NUSSLI grandstand.
