Successful Opening of the BMW Guggenheim Lab in New York

The Opening of the BMW Guggenheim Lab in New York was a Great Success.

August 2011

From now on, as a mobile research laboratory, the lab will demonstrate future-oriented concepts, ideas and designs dealing with the challenges facing our cities of the future. Over the course of six years, a total of three BWM Guggenheim Labs will bring together forward-thinking personalities from the sectors of architecture, art, science, design, technology and education. Each Lab will be traveling to three major cities around the world for two years.
NUSSLI was responsible for the production, and installation of the Lab in New York. The Lab is a temporary structure comparable to a pavilion with a theater facility, and can be used for stage productions, exhibitions, receptions, and forums. The supporting structure of the 30 m long, 8 m high, and 6 m wide building consists of a carbon structure. This is a first for temporary construction, as carbon has traditionally been used primarily in industrial applications, for sports, and for the aerospace sector. The BMW Guggenheim Lab is a pioneering joint venture initiative of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the Guggenheim Museum, and BMW Group. The Japanese Atelier Bow-Wow was responsible for the architecture.
