Inventive pilots, innovative amateur engineers, and flying objects that defy gravity for as long as possible — that’s the Red Bull Flugtag in a nutshell.
NUSSLI had to be inventive as well, because the tidal range meant that the 300-square-meter floating platform had to be connected to the land by means of a movable, 20-meter-long access bridge. The team constructed this access bridge so that it could compensate for up to four meters of change in the water level – an uncommon structure that was a first for NUSSLI. The project was also a challenge in terms of logistics, because both the platform and the access bridge were prefabricated on land and then lifted into the water by means of a floating crane.
The NUSSLI team also erected a 60-meter-long walkway on shore (which was also connected to the movable access bridge) as well as several towers and a substructure for an FoH (front of house) container.
