With the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, SV Elversberg faced the challenge of adapting its Ursapharm Arena to the requirements of the German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association (DFB) within a very short space of time. During the gradual modernization of the stadium, NUSSLI implemented temporary grandstand systems that ensured match operations in the home arena and at the same time significantly increased the required spectator capacity. The solution enabled the club to combine the renovation of the stadium with the requirements of ongoing match operations.

Flexible grandstand solutions for newcomers

As part of the stadium modernization, the existing north stand and west stand were dismantled and the infield was enlarged. This initially reduced the capacity of the Ursapharm Arena to around 7,500 spectator seats. In order to still meet the requirements of the 2nd Bundesliga, NUSSLI erected temporary grandstand facilities using a system construction method on the vacated areas. Around 1,400 standing places and 700 seats for guest fans were created in the west stand. The temporary solution created additional capacity and ensured that home matches could continue to be played in Elversberg. Thanks to the rapid implementation, the new spectator areas could be used in time for the start of the season.

Stadium construction in several stages

In the next expansion stage, NUSSLI replaced the temporary north stand with a larger grandstand system in semi-permanent construction. The new structure offers guest fans around 935 standing places and 625 seats. An additional 790 standing places and 545 seats were created for the home crowd. A trapezoidal sheet steel roof protects spectators from the sun and rain and increases comfort during matches. The grandstand was clad with high-quality cladding and equipped with the necessary safety equipment. Cladding, net tarpaulins, buffer blocks and clip-on fences ensure that the facility meets all the requirements for professional football. Together, the two temporary structures increased the stadium capacity to around 12,500 seats, creating the basis for match operations in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Quick solutions for new league requirements

The project in Elversberg shows how clubs can react flexibly to new requirements with temporary and semi-permanent stadium solutions. Especially after a promotion, clubs are often under great time pressure, as technical specifications, capacity requirements and economic conditions have to be met at the same time.

NUSSLI has extensive experience in the realization of such transitional solutions. Comparable solutions have also been implemented for Holstein Kiel, among others. The semi-permanent stadium solutions offer clubs the opportunity to gradually expand their infrastructure without interrupting match operations. At the same time, they create planning security for long-term stadium developments and meet the high demands of professional football.
