Grandstands, stadiums and arenas

For many years, NUSSLI has been providing the event infrastructure for the Beach Volleyball Major in Gstaad, transforming the venue in the heart of the Bernese Oberland into an arena for top-level international sports. The grandstands, VIP areas, and other temporary structures are tailored to meet the diverse needs of athletes, the media, sponsors, and the audience. A particular strength of the project lies in its versatility: after the beach volleyball tournament, the arena can be reused for the Swiss Open Gstaad, the tennis tournament.

Grandstands for the Beach Volleyball Arena

At the heart of NUSSLI’s design is a U-shaped grandstand that surrounds the beach volleyball court on three sides, creating a compact, arena-like atmosphere. The spectator facilities are complemented by VIP grandstands, boxes, and a separate VIP platform. This creates a variety of lounge and spectator areas within the temporary sports arena. Staircases and an entrance portal complement the grandstand complex and guide visitors directly into the arena. A wheelchair platform is also part of the infrastructure, providing more accessible entry to the spectator areas.

Infrastructure for Sports, Media, and the Public

For the production of the international tournament, NUSSLI is constructing additional functional structures in addition to the grandstands. These include a TV platform and a scaffold for a large screen. This ensures that the technical and media requirements of the sporting event are also integrated into the temporary arena. An additional platform for Swatch complements the infrastructure by providing a space for the sponsor’s presence. Different platform and grandstand elements thus each serve a clearly defined function—ranging from spectator seating to media production to brand presentation.

An arena for two international sporting events

The grandstand complex in Gstaad isn't just designed for the beach volleyball tournament. In 2026, the Swiss Open Gstaad take over the existing grandstand infrastructure for the subsequent tennis tournament. To this end, some elements were modified and rebuilt, while other parts could continue to be used as is.

As a result, two international sporting events shared the same temporary infrastructure. This reduces the effort required for construction and dismantling, while also demonstrating how flexible modular Grandstand Systems can be tailored to different sports and event requirements.

Temporary grandstand construction with many years of experience

The Beach Volleyball Major in Gstaad combines high-level competition with a unique event setting. NUSSLI has many years of experience in constructing temporary Grandstands to plan and execute international sporting events. This involves developing solutions for a wide variety of formats—from compact sports arenas, such as the one in Gstaad, to large temporary stadiums and grandstands capable of accommodating tens of thousands of spectators.
