The Schwarzseeschwinget takes place right on Lake Schwarzsee, in the heart of the Fribourg Pre-Alps. The lakeside setting provides a unique backdrop for this mountain wrestling festival and makes the venue an extraordinary setting for the sport of Swiss wrestling. NUSSLI has been responsible for the event’s spectator infrastructure for several years and constructs a large seated grandstand, an additional standing grandstand, and a press platform. The entire facility is set up within a short period of time and dismantled again after the wrestling festival.
Main grandstand with 1,812 seats
A central component of the spectator infrastructure is the main grandstand. With a width of approximately 51 meters, it can accommodate 1,812 spectators. The seated grandstand provides an elevated view of the wrestling rings and allows the audience to follow the individual bouts and the final bout from a good vantage point. The grandstand’s dimensions demonstrate how an open event space by the lake can be transformed into a fully-fledged spectator arena for a single day. The structure must not only provide sufficient seating but also blend into the festival grounds and meet the demands of a heavily attended sporting event.
Seating and standing areas to suit different needs
In addition to the large seated grandstand, NUSSLI is constructing a standing grandstand with approximately 345 spaces. This gives visitors a variety of options for watching the Schwingfest. The combination of seated and standing areas is particularly useful for events where the audience has varying preferences regarding comfort, proximity to the action, and price. While the seated grandstand offers a fixed seat and an elevated view of the competitions, the standing grandstand provides a simple and flexible viewing option.
Grandstands can also be configured in different ways for other events. Depending on the occasion, for example, traditional benches, individual seats, or comfortable premium seats may be used. The seating system is tailored to the event, the desired capacity, and the nature of the event.

Press platform for media coverage
A professional sporting event also requires the appropriate infrastructure for the media and coverage. At the Schwarzseeschwinget, NUSSLI is also constructing a covered press platform. From there, media professionals can follow the action and report on the competitions.
Rapid Construction of Grandstands
The Schwarzsee Schwingfest is a one-day sporting event. This means the infrastructure must be set up and taken down efficiently. NUSSLI constructs the grandstand complex in just three days. After the Schwingfest, the entire structure is dismantled within a single day. The short setup time is a particular strength of modular grandstand systems. The individual components can be efficiently assembled, configured for the specific venue, and dismantled again after the event. This makes it possible to provide a large spectator facility even for a single day of events without the need for a permanent grandstand.
