The LAAX OPEN is one of the most prestigious freestyle events in the world and is an integral part of the international FIS Snowboard & Freeski World Cup. Year after year, the world’s best snowboarders and freeskiers gather in LAAX to compete in spectacular contests on the halfpipe and the slopestyle course. In addition to the athletic competitions, concerts, side events, and festival activities shape the event and make LAAX a hub for the international freestyle community. NUSSLI has been supporting the event for several years with temporary event structures and provides the infrastructure for athletes, media, and spectators.

Winter sports, festivals, and lifestyle—all in one place

The LAAX OPEN is about much more than just top-class winter sports. While the international elite compete on the race courses during the day, the event grounds on the mountain and in the valley transform into a lively gathering place for athletes, sponsors, the media, and winter sports fans from all over the world. The combination of World Cup competitions, music, culinary delights, and a diverse range of side events gives the event its unique character. This creates a variety of demands on the infrastructure, which must optimally support both professional competition operations and the festival experience.

Temporary Event Structures for World Cup Events

To support the LAAX OPEN, NUSSLI is constructing various temporary Event Structures at several locations throughout the event grounds. The modular structures are precisely tailored to the requirements of the competitions and TV production and blend harmoniously into the alpine surroundings. The scope of work includes substructures for several LED screens along the competition courses and in the finish area, TV towers for international live coverage, and a standing grandstand overlooking the halfpipe. The structures are complemented by platforms for VIP guests and technical facilities that reliably support event operations. All structures are erected within a few days and are completely dismantled after the event concludes, ensuring that the mountain landscape is preserved in a sustainable manner.

Ideal Conditions for Television and the Live Experience

Freestyle thrives on spectacular tricks, big jumps, and dynamic camera shots. A precisely planned media infrastructure is essential to ensure these moments can be broadcast worldwide. The TV towers built by NUSSLI provide optimal camera positions along the competition venues and offer impressive views of the halfpipe and the slopestyle course. At the same time, the LED substructures ensure that competition information, sponsor content, and live footage can be clearly displayed for the audience at all times. Spectators also benefit from the well-designed infrastructure. The standing grandstand in the finish area offers the best view of the decisive moments and, together with the spectator platforms, creates an intense atmosphere right in the heart of the competition action.

Event Construction Under Challenging Weather Conditions

Erecting temporary event structures in high-altitude mountain regions requires the utmost flexibility. During assembly, weather conditions can change within a matter of hours—from sunshine to rain to snowfall and strong winds. Event structures must therefore not only be planned with precision but also adapted to alpine conditions. Thanks to many years of experience in winter sports and proven modular system solutions, NUSSLI can work efficiently and on schedule even under challenging weather conditions. This results in a safe infrastructure that consistently meets the requirements of an international World Cup event.

Modular Event Structures for International Winter Sports Events

Temporary event structures make it possible to flexibly adapt international sporting events to the conditions of the venue. TV platforms, spectator areas, LED substructures, and other event structures can be individually combined and precisely tailored to the needs of organizers, media, and visitors. After the event, all structures are dismantled and prepared for future use. As a result, modular event construction combines cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and maximum flexibility—especially for annual events such as the LAAX OPEN.
