Right on the shores of Lake Geneva, the world’s best 3x3 basketball teams compete against each other as part of the FIBA World Tour. The fast-paced format, the proximity to the audience, and the unique location make the tournament a special sporting experience in Lausanne. NUSSLI has been supporting the event for several editions now and implements key elements of the temporary event infrastructure. The scope of services includes, among other things, a spectator grandstand with 396 seats, a raised platform, and a large podium serving as the foundation for the basketball court. Year after year, this infrastructure transforms the temporary sports field into a professional venue.
A Sturdy Foundation for the Basketball Court
One of NUSSLI’s key tasks is to construct the substructure for the playing field. To do this, a 20 × 16-meter platform with a height of 0.5 meters is installed on the designated playing area. The platform features a three-layer coating and serves as the foundation for the basketball court above it. The substructure is a key component of the temporary sports infrastructure. It creates a clearly defined level for the playing field and must also be precisely tailored to the local conditions and the event’s requirements. The structure is precisely planned and implemented for each specific event and blends seamlessly into the temporary venue.
The project serves as an example of how Event Structures used by NUSSLI as a functional foundation for sporting events. Platforms and stages can serve as a base for playing areas while also providing the necessary infrastructure for other areas of an event. Thanks to modular systems, the structures can be flexibly adapted to different venues and requirements.
396 seats for spectators
NUSSLI is building a spectator grandstand with 396 seats for visitors. The grandstand offers an unobstructed view of the court and brings the audience right into the heart of the action. In 3x3 basketball in particular, the proximity between players and spectators is a key part of the atmosphere. The compact Grandstand Solution It enhances the urban atmosphere of the event and allows fans to experience the fast-paced rallies, spectacular plays, and decisive moments up close.
Long-standing infrastructure for an international sporting event
This collaboration across multiple editions demonstrates NUSSLI's strength in recurring sporting events: Existing solutions can be efficiently implemented and adapted to the requirements of each specific event.
Lausanne complements NUSSLI's international basketball expertise. At the FIBA 3x3 European Basketball Championship in Vienna NUSSLI built a temporary open-air basketball arena for up to 4,000 spectators, complete with bleachers, a playing court, warm-up courts, and additional platforms. Both projects demonstrate the breadth of NUSSLI’s capabilities—ranging from individual event structures to complete temporary sports arenas.
Event Structures for Sporting Events
For a temporary sporting event, numerous individual elements must be brought together to form a functional overall infrastructure. The playing field, bleachers, platforms, and other structures must not only be safe and stable, but also blend seamlessly into the respective venue. NUSSLI has many years of experience in the planning and implementation of such temporary Event Structures. The range extends from grandstands and podiums to platforms and staircases, all the way to complete stadiums and arenas.
