Freestyle World Championships, St. Moritz
The 2025 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle & Freeski World Championships in St. Moritz brought the international freestyle elite, thousands of winter sports fans, and media from around the world to the Engadin. NUSSLI was responsible for planning and implementing the event infrastructure at various competition venues as well as in the Festival Village. Customized solutions laid the foundation for the smooth operation of the World Championships—on the slopes, in the finish area, and throughout the event grounds.
Event Infrastructure for an International World Championship
A world championship in freestyle sports places special demands on the event infrastructure. Multiple competition venues, various disciplines, as well as TV productions, sponsors, media, and visitors must all be optimally supported simultaneously. Added to this are the challenging conditions in alpine terrain, which require precise planning and construction processes that are perfectly coordinated. NUSSLI developed and implemented customized solutions for this purpose Event Structures, which blended seamlessly into the various event areas and met the high standards required for a major international winter sports event.
TV and Media Infrastructure
Today, international sporting events reach an audience of millions through television and digital media. This makes a high-performance infrastructure for camera crews, photographers, and journalists all the more important. For the World Championships, NUSSLI erected several TV towers as well as the mixed zones, where athletes gave interviews immediately after their competitions. The elevated camera positions provided impressive views of the competitions and ensured that the spectacular jumps and races could be broadcast worldwide in the highest image quality. At the same time, the media areas offered optimal working conditions for international coverage.
Festival Village with a stage
In addition to the athletic competitions, the Festival Village served as the lively centerpiece of the event. This is where visitors, athletes, sponsors, and partners gathered to share experiences away from the slopes. NUSSLI built the event stage as the central venue for opening ceremonies, award ceremonies, shows, and the supporting program. It provided the Festival Village with an attractive setting for entertainment and socializing and created a space where freestyle sports were celebrated even outside of the competitions.
Sturdy Support Structures for Modern Event Technology
Today, large-format LED walls are among the most important components of international sporting events. They keep visitors informed about competition results, broadcast live footage, and enhance the overall event experience. To ensure this technology could be operated safely, NUSSLI constructed the necessary substructures for the large-format LED screens. The support structures were precisely tailored to the technical requirements and ensured the safe operation of the event technology even under challenging weather conditions.
VIP Areas for Partners and Guests
International sporting events offer sponsors, partners, and guests of honor a special setting for networking and hospitality. To this end, NUSSLI built high-quality VIP platforms offering optimal views of the action. The platforms combined functionality with comfort and blended seamlessly into the overall concept of the World Championships. This created exclusive areas where guests could watch the competitions in a special atmosphere.
Precise execution under alpine conditions
The construction of temporary event structures in high-altitude mountain regions poses unique challenges in terms of planning, logistics, and assembly. Snow, wind, low temperatures, and challenging terrain require flexible solutions and precise coordination of all work. For the Freestyle World Championships, NUSSLI installed a total of approximately 23,000 system components with a combined weight of about 220 metric tons. Despite the challenging conditions, all structures were completed on schedule and handed over in time for the World Championships. The close collaboration among all project participants contributed significantly to the project’s success.
