Set against the impressive backdrop of Banz Abbey, the abbey meadow in Bad Staffelstein transforms every year into a gathering place for music lovers from all over Germany. The open-air festival “Lieder auf Banz” is one of the best-known singer-songwriter festivals in the German-speaking world and delights its audience with a unique atmosphere that blends historic architecture with live music under the open sky. For the event, NUSSLI builds the central concert stage, a spectator grandstand, and other temporary event structures each year, thereby creating the infrastructural foundation for a high-quality festival experience. The combination of professional stage infrastructure and the unique setting makes “Lieder auf Banz” an extraordinary open-air event on the German festival calendar.
Open-air stage on the monastery lawn
The centerpiece of the event is the concert stage on the monastery lawn in front of Banz Abbey. NUSSLI is constructing the striking arched stage with a tarpaulin roof, thereby creating the setting for performances by nationally renowned singer-songwriters and musicians. The infrastructure is complemented by PA towers, backstage areas, side staircases, and the necessary technical and production spaces required for professional event operations.

Grandstand solutions for music events
The special atmosphere of “Lieder auf Banz” thrives on the closeness between the artists and the audience. To this end, NUSSLI is constructing a spectator grandstand with 1,207 seats, offering guests a comfortable view of the stage. The grandstand complements the open festival grounds and provides additional seating for visitors who wish to enjoy the concert program from elevated seats. This creates a successful blend of a classic open-air experience and comfortable spectator facilities.

With “Lieder auf Banz,” NUSSLI is organizing an event where the venue’s atmosphere is just as important as the technical infrastructure. NUSSLI has carried out similar projects at, among others, the Vaduz Classic in Liechtenstein as well as in the Jazz Open Stuttgart For both events, temporary stage and audience structures are erected that blend harmoniously into their surroundings while meeting the highest standards for safety, visibility, and the visitor experience.
