Every summer, the Raiffeisen Castle Nights transform the historic arcaded courtyard of Stockalper Castle in Brig into a unique concert and event venue. To ensure that the events can take place regardless of weather conditions, NUSSLI installed a temporary, transparent canopy over the courtyard.
Weather-proof event solution
Stockalper Castle is one of Switzerland’s most impressive historic buildings. Its open arcaded courtyard provides an extraordinary setting for concerts, comedy, and cultural events—but is completely exposed to the elements. To ensure events can take place in any weather, NUSSLI developed a temporary roof structure that blends harmoniously with the historic architecture. The transparent canopy protects guests, performers, and technical equipment from rain without altering the open character of the courtyard. This preserves the special experience of a summer evening under the open sky.
Transparent Canopy
For the “Castle Nights” events, NÜSSLI constructed a roof structure measuring approximately 21 × 31 meters, which was installed about 11 meters above the arcaded courtyard. The transparent roof completely covers the event area and creates optimal conditions for concerts and live events. The structure is based on proven modular systems used in event construction and combines high stability with a delicate appearance. Visitors can enjoy the events sheltered from the weather while still experiencing the impressive architecture of Stockalper Castle and the view of the sky above the historic courtyard.

Innovative Installation Solution Without a Construction Crane
Installation in this historic, protected area posed a particular challenge. Using a large construction crane would not only have been costly, but would also have entailed significant limitations due to space constraints and the historic surroundings. NUSSLI therefore opted for an innovative installation method: The entire roof structure was pre-assembled on the ground and then carefully hoisted to its final height using chain hoists. This method significantly reduced the technical effort required, minimized disruption to the surrounding area, and enabled the efficient installation of the roof.
