Since 2018, the Lakelive Festival has been transforming the bay of Biel and Nidau into a diverse gathering place for music, sports, culture, and socializing over the course of ten days. More than 80,000 visitors come to Lake Biel each year to attend concerts, participate in sports activities, spend time with family and friends, or simply enjoy the special atmosphere right on the water. NUSSLI has been supporting the festival for several years by providing a wide range of event infrastructure and meeting a variety of requirements across the expansive grounds.

One idea, many event formats

A festival like Lakelive is much more than just a big stage. Different areas, uses, and visitor groups each require appropriate structures. That’s why NUSSLI builds various event structures for Lakelive—from stages to hospitality and visitor platforms, as well as entrance gates and special structures. Flexible system solutions are used that can be adapted to different dimensions and requirements. In this way, individual system components are combined to create a customized infrastructure tailored to the festival grounds and the specific usage concept. For organizers, this means that an idea doesn’t have to exist as a finished structure right from the start. The client defines what is to be built on the festival grounds and how a particular area is to be used. Based on this, USSLI works with the event organizer to develop a feasible solution and implements it using the appropriate system materials.

Stages for Different Formats

Music is a central part of the Lakelive Festival. Over the course of ten days, international artists and local acts perform on multiple stages. The requirements for each venue vary accordingly. NUSSLI is constructing the main stage with a canopy. The entire structure measures approximately 30 × 16 meters. Another stage is located inside a tent, demonstrating just how varied stage solutions can be on a festival grounds. Whether it’s a large concert stage, a compact stage in a tent, or a structure for lighting and LED technology: stages can be built using modular system materials in various sizes and shapes.

Hospitality with a View

Festivals appeal to different groups of visitors. Lakelive also features areas designed to meet varying needs. For guests in the hospitality area, NUSSLI is constructing, among other things, a two-story VIP platform. The elevated position provides a unique view of the festival grounds and offers space for hospitality services. The two-story structure allows for additional use of the available space. The on-site tent on the second level complements the structure and creates a sheltered area for VIP guests.

Facilities for All Guests

A festival should be accessible to as many people as possible. That is why solutions for different needs are an integral part of the event infrastructure. At Lakelive, NUSSLI is installing, among other things, a wheelchair platform, thereby helping to ensure that guests with limited mobility can also enjoy the events. The various entrance gates are also part of the visitor guidance system. Three entrances mark the access points to the festival grounds and help visitors easily find their way in and out. Thus, the infrastructure built by NUSSLI ranges from the large concert stage to small but important details for specific visitor groups.

Water tubing at heights of up to six meters

A particularly unique structure is being built for the festival’s water tubing attraction. To this end, NUSSLI is constructing a substructure with platforms and a staircase that is up to six meters high. This example illustrates the wide range of applications for modular systems. Using the same basic principles applied to stages and platforms, it is also possible to develop unusual structures for recreational and sports activities. The key lies in the combination of standardized components and customized planning tailored to the specific application.
