A New Interpretation of the Mack Pyramid

The existing Mack Pyramid has been one of Monheim am Rhein’s architectural landmarks for decades. The extension takes up the characteristic form of the existing building and consistently develops it further. A second, abstracted, and mirrored form is superimposed over the existing pyramid, taking up its geometry and extending it upward. The two peaks face each other, appearing to float, and together form a striking architectural unit.

Inside, additional exhibition spaces for contemporary art, storage and archive areas for art collections, and modernized rooms within the existing pyramid are being created. The project combines respect for historic preservation, modern architecture, and functional requirements into a structure that attracts attention far beyond the region.

Comprehensive project management from a single source

As a general contractor, NUSSLI is responsible for the complete coordination and execution of the project. Its services range from construction planning and project management to the coordination of all specialized planners, culminating in a turnkey handover.

The design combines reinforced concrete, steel, wood, and drywall to form a highly complex load-bearing structure. Prefabricated components are used wherever possible to optimize construction time and assembly processes. At the same time, renovation work on the existing building is proceeding in parallel with the construction of the new building. This close integration of a wide variety of trades requires the highest level of precision in planning, logistics, and schedule management.

Special Projects: When Standard Solutions Aren't Enough

The Mack Pyramid is a prime example of NUSSLI’s Special Projects division. While traditional event projects are erected and dismantled within a short period of time, Special Projects involve custom-designed structures intended for long-term use and meeting the highest architectural standards. Here, solutions are created that are specifically developed for a project—ranging from complex structural systems and sophisticated facades to custom-designed interior concepts. The experience gained from major international projects, world’s fairs, and sophisticated cultural buildings enables NUSSLI to implement even the most extraordinary architectural designs cost-effectively and with precision.

Second Major Project for Monheim am Rhein

With the Mack Pyramid, NUSSLI is already carrying out its second major construction project for the city of Monheim am Rhein. Previously, NUSSLI was responsible for the construction of the New Eight-Court Sports Hall – currently the largest sports arena in Europe. This renewed collaboration underscores the city’s confidence in the company’s technical expertise and reliable project management. The experience gained from this major project is being directly applied to the construction of the Mack Pyramid. In particular, the coordination of complex construction processes, collaboration with numerous specialist planners, and the management of demanding schedules form an important foundation for successful construction progress.
