The Merkur Spiel-Arena impresses at the 2024 European Handball Championships with over 50,000 spectators thanks to temporary stands, underlining the trend towards flexible event buildings.
Within eight days, the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA was transformed into an extraordinary European Handball Championship arena. The football turf was replaced by slabs and special flooring was used to create a perfect handball pitch. NUSSLI erected four stands with 8,700 seats. The temporary additional seats in the interior enabled a capacity of over 50,000 seats, which were sold out even before the European Championships. The flexible adaptability of the arena ensured optimal visibility and atmosphere. The conversion demonstrates a trend towards temporary event structures that can be used not only for sporting events, but also for other events. Stadium operators benefit from extended usage options and flexible adaptation.
