The 5th Winter Military World Games took place in Switzerland in March 2025 and brought together athletes from military organizations around the world. Under the motto “Military Champions for Peace,” more than 1,400 athletes from 42 nations participated in the competitions. In addition to Lucerne, which served as the venue for the opening ceremony, the sporting events took place at various well-known winter sports resorts throughout Switzerland. The event combined top athletic performances with international encounters and mutual exchange. NUSSLI had the privilege of constructing a temporary grandstand for the occasion.

An International Military Sports Meet

The Winter Military World Games are among the most significant international multisport events in the military sphere. Similar to the Olympic Games, participants compete against one another in various winter sports disciplines while representing their nations. Hosting the Games in Switzerland provided athletes with a platform for athletic competition and cross-border exchanges. The opening ceremony in Lucerne marked the official start of the Games and brought together delegations, guests of honor, organizers, and spectators.

Requirements for a High-Quality Spectator Infrastructure

Infrastructure plays a central role in an international opening ceremony. Spectator areas must not only offer sufficient capacity but also ensure comfort, good visibility, and an appropriate atmosphere for such an event. Clear organization and high-quality execution of spectator facilities are particularly crucial for events involving official delegations, the media, and guests. The infrastructure must also be flexible enough to adapt to the temporary nature of the event and be removable once the event is over.

Premium grandstand with 3,492 seats

For the opening ceremony, NUSSLI constructed a temporary premium grandstand with a total of 3,492 seats. The grandstand spanned a width of approximately 59 meters and featured 25 rows of comfortable folding seats. The structure was precisely tailored to the venue’s requirements. In addition to structural safety, the focus was particularly on optimal sightlines and a high level of comfort for visitors. The grandstand provided guests with the best possible conditions to experience the ceremony and the action on the event grounds up close.

Temporary bleachers for flexible sporting events

Temporary Grandstands They offer event organizers the opportunity to set up high-quality spectator facilities even for temporary events or unusual venues. Capacity, amenities, and layout can be customized to meet the specific requirements of each event. Modular systems enable flexible solutions that can be efficiently set up, used, and dismantled after the event concludes. As a result, temporary grandstands are particularly well-suited for international sporting events, championships, and ceremonies.
