Sports are back in Albstadt

The temporary sports hall built by NUSSLI to replace the demolished Schlossberghalle has been handed over to the town of Albstadt. In just six months, a high-quality sports hall has been built. School and club sports can take place again.

November 2023

NUSSLI planned and realized the interim sports hall as a total contractor within nine months and has now handed it over to the client, the city of Albstadt, just in time for the start of the school year.

Temporary sports hall with full equipment

With this high-quality temporary facility, NUSSLI is offering the city a solution that was originally planned as a temporary solution, but can now be used for much longer and will finally allow club and school sports to take place again.

The 45 by 22 meter, three-section hall has a pitched roof with a ridge height of 9.5 meters. The hall consists of a steel structure and was built in just four months of planning and around six months of construction.

Single-storey ancillary rooms in container design are attached to both long sides of the hall. Prefabricated and equipped in the factory, the 38 containers only had to be connected on site and connected to the supply lines. The equipment and storage rooms are located on the west side of the new sports hall. The changing rooms, toilets and showers are located on the east side.

Quickly implemented solution with a long service life

With the temporary hall, the town of Albstadt in Baden-Württemberg has found a solution that allows them to breathe a sigh of relief. Operations are secure and the plans for a permanent sports facility can take their time. According to Udo Baader, Head of Project Management Special Projects at NUSSLI: "The construction time of the hall has been shortened enormously because it consists of a so-called lightweight steel construction. Nevertheless, the temporary hall is designed for a longer service life and can remain standing for a good 10 years or more. In terms of equipment, the practice hall also offers everything that school sports and sports clubs need for their operations. The hall is equipped with all the functional rooms and spacious changing rooms required for sport and can be divided into three equally sized hall sections using curtains. Various pieces of equipment, such as the fold-out wall bars, can be attached to the sports floor and ball throwing practice equipment is mounted on the walls.

Looking forward to the sports facility

In a recent newspaper interview, Mayor Udo Hollauer announced a collaboration with the art museum with the words "the sports hall should also look good". With creative graffiti by artist Hanna Keul, the facade on the east side will be a colorful eye-catcher with a sporty girl and plants as a motif.

School classes and sports clubs can look forward to the new gymnasium. This is because it is larger than the old Schlossberg gymnasium and beautifully bright: with a light green floor, large skylights and white roof surfaces on the inside. There is a fully equipped sanitary room with a shower, toilet and washbasin for people with reduced mobility. And the containers are no longer individually recognizable after the NUSSLI project team installed them wall to wall.
