The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is celebrating its 60th season packed with music and entertainment. NUSSLI was commissioned to design and create an infrastructure for the annual August performances, comprising almost 8,800 seats and various catering and production facilities. The events attract as many as 217,000 spectators every year, and viewed by over 100 million worldwide each year on TV.
NUSSLI’s planning work was completed in September 2009. From 2011 to 2013 NUSSLI will transport altogether 850 tonnes of steel up the hill in front of the historic Edinburgh Castle for installation there. Challenges are posed by the six-week construction period and by the heavy tourist foot traffic on the Castle Esplanade. 22-meter-long steel girders, to be set as much as 1.8 meters deep in the ground, will tower above the Castle Esplanade. All the products used will be custom-designed and produced for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo event. NUSSLI will install this new special construction in 2011 for the first time.
