From April 13 to October 13, 2025, the next World Expo will take place in Osaka, Japan. Under the motto Composing the Future, Austria will present its country and its potential and capabilities in the fields of economy, sustainability, innovation, research, education, and culture. The construction of the Austrian pavilion has been entrusted to the renowned general contractor NUSSLI, which will realize the project together with BWM Designers & Architects and facts and fiction.
Andy Böckli, CEO of NUSSLI, explains: “We are delighted to be implementing the pavilion for Austria for the sixth time. The project has almost become a tradition and has allowed us to act as a connecting element for innovation regularly since 2005.” Stefan Sekiguchi, COO Special Projects at NUSSLI, adds, “The pavilion shines with several unique aspects, such as the spiral sculpture rising spectacularly into the air. Such designs are highly complex and require the full range of our engineering knowledge and, in some cases, creative approaches.”
Composing the Future
With an exhibition area of 270 m2, the Austrian pavilion will take visitors from the past to the future with music as the supporting medium. In this context, a contemporary and modern Austria will be presented and the diversity and performance of its economy and society will be showcased.
The centerpiece is a spectacular spiral sculpture that rises majestically into the air and can be seen from afar. A closer look reveals an oversized band of notes made of wooden panels bolted together, as Johann Moser, architect of the Austria Pavilion, explains.
Inside the pavilion is the exhibition hall, which is divided into three rooms and focuses on the themes of relationships, people, and ideas. Guests will be taken on a journey from the past to the present and into the future through an impressive musical production. In a final show, visitors will compose the world of tomorrow together.
The aim of the Austria Pavilion is to offer visitors an unforgettable experience. The senses are addressed through fascinating exhibits, innovative presentations and inspiring interactions.
The architectural design of the Austria Pavilion and the general theme were created by BWM Designers & Architects. The concept and design of the exhibition are the responsibility of facts and fiction in cooperation with BWM. NUSSLI is taking on the role of general contractor and is contributing its many years of experience and expertise to the implementation of the project. The Austrian contribution is financed by funds from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Economics (BMAW) and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. (WKÖ), the implementation is carried out by the Expo office of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
