| Extension for living room, bedroom and office space |
A detached house over 100 years old located in the canton Thurgau in Switzerland received a complete extension ready to move into with living room, bedroom and office space in seven weeks. NUSSLI was responsible for planning, construction as well as coordination with other workmen.
It managed to complete the new two-storey section quickly thanks to the modern wood-frame construction. Supporting the gable wall construction in order to remove the present wall was demanding. A balcony made from steel fits discreetly into the facade architecture of the extended house. |

| Minergie-P House in Hüttwilen |
The first certified Minergie-P house in the Swiss canton of Thurgau was built over a period of three months in the town of Hüttwilen. (Minergie is a Swiss building standard and quality label for new and renovated houses.) The heating consumption in the so-called passive house is more than 80 percent lower than in standard houses. But that’s not all. With a photovoltaic system (solar cells) on the roof, the house produces more energy in the course of a year than it uses.
The building shell, which is made of glued wooden panels, is completely airtight and the house therefore needs no heating system. NUSSLI was responsible for the entire process of planning, producing and assembling the wooden structure and constructing the roof from Eternit slates. The high insulation rating of the nine-room house is achieved by the use of a modern ventilation system and the consistent wooden construction method. The roof and walls are 46 cm thick, of which 38 cm consists of insulation. |

| A Familiy Home in Nussbaumen |
It usually takes at least six months to build a detached house. Thanks to pre-fabrication, perfect planning and rapid assembly, the owner of a timber house and workshop in Nussbaumen were able to take possession of the keys after only three months. Because of its energy-saving capabilities and the dry building technique, wood is increasingly coming back in fashion, so traditional methods are in demand.
Wood can be used not only for the interior and the roof trusses, but also for the load-bearing frames. The cedarwood facade of the house in Nussbaumen is particularly striking. Oiling and UV protection will keep the reddish brown color of the wood looking as good as new for decades. |
